Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon
Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has called for a more comprehensive and structured educational partnership between Bangladesh and China to foster bilateral talent development and institutional growth.
The minister made the call while addressing the China–Bangladesh Education Exchange Conference held at South China Normal University in Guangzhou, China, according to an official press release issued on Wednesday (August 26).
Emphasizing sustainable institutional collaboration, Dr. Milon highlighted key focus areas:
"Universities from both nations should pursue long-term collaboration through joint scientific research, reciprocal scholarships, faculty and student exchanges, specialized short-term training, and dual-degree Master's and PhD programmes. Building enduring academic bridges is vital for our future workforce."
The high-level bilateral symposium convened senior education policymakers, diplomats, and university leadership from both nations to deliberate on expanding academic cooperation and unlocking new avenues for higher education.
The Bangladesh delegation included Prime Minister’s Education Adviser Mahdi Amin and Technical and Madrasah Education Division Secretary Md. Daud Miah.
Representing the Chinese side were Xu Shimin, Provincial Chief Inspector of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province; Zhou Liuyu, Deputy Director of the Exchange and Cooperation Office; Engr. Sheikh Korban Ali, Vice-President of the China-Bangladesh Education and Culture Association; Wang Peng, Vice-Secretary; Zheng Pengwu, Consultant; and Professor Yang Chengwei, Vice President of South China Normal University.
Highlighting regional support, Xu Shimin reaffirmed Guangdong Province’s commitment to expanding international student intake from Bangladesh. He shared that during the 2024–2025 academic year, 261 Bangladeshi scholars pursued higher education in Guangdong, with 20 students securing the prestigious Guangdong Government Scholarship in 2025.
The conference concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to broadening university-to-university linkages and institutionalizing long-term academic exchange programs.
