Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain speaks at the event in Monohardi, Narsingdi
The government will recruit 25,000 midwives across the country to deliver healthcare services directly to marginalized communities and safeguard women's health, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain announced on Friday. The minister noted that these midwives will play a pivotal role in remote and rural areas by facilitating early screening for diseases such as breast and cervical cancer, raising public health awareness, and providing essential clinical counseling.
Speaking as the chief guest at an event on the premises of Monohardi Government Pilot Model High School in Narsingdi on Friday (October 30)—organized to distribute sewing machines and tree saplings among underprivileged and working women, as well as honor GPA-5 achieving students—the minister stressed that the chances of complete recovery from breast and cervical cancer increase substantially when detected in their earliest stages. To boost awareness, the government is initiating targeted health counseling for female students and teachers across both public and private educational institutions, alongside the ongoing nationwide vaccination campaign launched at the secondary school level to prevent cervical cancer.
Addressing foreign relations and national sovereignty during the event, the health minister firmly stated that Bangladesh welcomes friendships with foreign nations but will accept no foreign master. He remarked that while Bangladesh may be geographically modest in landmass, its strategic geographic location confers substantial international importance. Reaffirming the administration's steadfast resolve to protect the country's independence, he asserted that no outside domination over even an inch of Bangladeshi soil will ever be tolerated.
