State Minister for Health Dr. MA Muhith speaks at the 32nd DNMC Day
State Minister for Health Dr. MA Muhith has issued a stern warning against corruption in the health sector, declaring that not a single paisa of public funds will be allowed to be misappropriated and that immediate legal action will be taken against anyone implicated in graft.
He made the statement as chief guest at an event commemorating the 32nd DNMC Day at Dhaka National Medical Institute and Medical College on Friday afternoon (October 16). Ishraq Hossain, State Minister for Liberation War Affairs and Member of Parliament for Dhaka-6, addressed the event as a special guest.
Emphasizing the urgent need for transparency and institutional accountability, Dr. Muhith alleged that during the 15-year rule of the previous regime, thousands of crores of taka were looted from the healthcare sector and laundered abroad. He noted that even the host institution went without paying income tax for 12 consecutive years due to rampant embezzlement, leaving accumulated liabilities that the current administration and the newly appointed governing body are now actively settling.
Reaffirming a zero-tolerance policy against corrupt practices, the State Minister insisted that sustainable national development remains unattainable without effectively curbing graft. He warned that regardless of influence or political standing, no corrupt official would receive clemency from the government or the prime minister, reiterating that punitive measures would be instant and uncompromising.
Dr. Muhith added that the healthcare sector is being rebuilt in alignment with the people's aspirations following the 2024 uprising. He pledged that every paisa allocated to the health budget from taxpayers' money will be utilized directly toward recruiting new doctors and nurses, as well as supplying free essential medicines and delivering quality treatment to underprivileged citizens.
