Anvir Bashundhara Group Foundation has provided financial assistance to Yasmin Ara, a teacher at a private university in the capital, who is battling cancer and struggling to meet the high cost of her treatment.
The foundation extended the support as part of its humanitarian initiatives after learning about the financial hardship faced by the educator, whose treatment expenses have placed a heavy burden on her family.
Yasmin Ara, who has been teaching for many years, is well known among her students and colleagues for her dedication and commitment to education. However, her life changed dramatically after she was diagnosed with stage-three cancer, which has also spread to her lymph nodes.
Speaking about her condition, she said the treatment has been extremely expensive. She noted that one injection alone cost Tk 100,000 and that she now requires oral chemotherapy, with medication expenses amounting to nearly Tk 65,000 every month.
Despite her illness, she said she continued taking classes for as long as she could because of her passion for teaching and her students' appreciation for her lessons. She expressed hope that once her health improves, she will be able to return to the classroom and resume her profession.
Upon learning about her situation, Anvir Bashundhara Group Foundation stepped forward with financial assistance to support her ongoing treatment.
Chief Coordinator of the foundation, Md. Aminul Islam, said the organisation had assured Yasmin Ara that the foundation and its chairman would continue to stand by her during this difficult period. He also called on affluent members of society to come forward and support people facing similar hardships.
The financial assistance has provided Yasmin Ara not only with much-needed relief but also renewed hope and determination. She said she remains committed to overcoming cancer and returning to her students to continue spreading knowledge through education.
