Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch chief and Additional Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam has said that the recent directive urging police personnel to remain vigilant was not issued in response to any specific intelligence about an imminent threat.
Speaking at a press briefing on Sunday, he said police remain alert at all times and the latest instruction was intended to remind field officers to exercise greater caution while performing their duties.
Earlier, Police Headquarters issued an emergency directive to units across the country ordering enhanced security for police vehicles, including jeeps, pickups and buses, citing concerns over possible acts of sabotage. Officers were instructed to keep vehicles under constant supervision both during duty and while parked.
Shafiqul Islam said the reminder came in the wake of several recent bomb-related incidents and public rumours, stressing that it should not be interpreted as evidence of a specific threat.
Regarding the improvised explosive device (IED) recovered in Motijheel, he said the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit is leading the investigation, while the Detective Branch is conducting a parallel inquiry. Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those involved, although further details cannot be disclosed at this stage.
