Scrutiny and verification processes have been intensified regarding 1,413 residential plots allocated on political considerations across Dhaka's upscale and major residential zones between 2009 and 2024, with authorities resolving to initiate strict legal actions if specific irregularities are substantiated.
Already, operational activities for 1,074 plots under the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK)—comprising 874 plots in the Purbachal New Town Project and 200 plots in the Jhilmil Residential Area—have been placed on temporary hold following preliminary findings of irregularities.
These decisions and factual updates were disclosed on Sunday (October 25) during the second meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban under the chairmanship of committee chief Md. Rezaul Karim Badsha.
According to the Parliament Secretariat, a total of 1,413 plots were distributed on political grounds across Gulshan, Banani, Uttara, Purbachal New Town, and Jhilmil between 2009 and 2024. The highest concentration of allocations occurred in the Purbachal project, which accounted for 944 plots. To investigate whether procedural violations or unlawful practices took place in RAJUK’s allotment process, a dedicated committee constituted in compliance with a High Court Division rule examined the official records and submitted an inspection report to the ministry. Based on the initial anomalies flagged in the report, all administrative and execution procedures for the 874 plots in Purbachal and 200 plots in Jhilmil have been suspended. Final legal proceedings regarding all allocated plots will be determined following comprehensive judicial and administrative assessments of the political considerations and irregularities involved.
