Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman has disclosed that a total of 3,619 weapons were looted from police stations across the country during the mass uprising in 2024, with security forces so far recovering more than 60 percent of them.
Speaking at a high-level meeting on Wednesday focused on the country’s law-and-order situation ahead of the 13th parliamentary election and the referendum on the July National Charter, the army chief said 2,259 of the stolen weapons have already been recovered, accounting for 62.4 percent of the total.
According to figures shared by the Chief Adviser’s press wing, General Waker-Uz-Zaman also said that 456,418 rounds of ammunition were looted during the same period. Of those, 237,100 rounds have been retrieved, representing about 52 percent recovery.
He said coordinated efforts and joint discussions among the security forces are underway to strengthen public confidence and maintain stability during the election period.
