The minimum and maximum rates of Sadaqatul Fitr (Fitra) for Ramadan have been set at Tk 110 and Tk 2,805 per person respectively this year, unchanged from last year.
The rates were fixed at a meeting of the National Sadaqatul Fitr Determination Committee held on Wednesday at the conference room of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital.
The committee unanimously decided that according to Islamic Shariah, Fitra can be paid using any of the staple items including wheat, barley, raisins, dates, or cheese.
According to the decision, the minimum Fitra has been fixed based on the market price of staple food items, while the maximum amount has been determined in consideration of higher-value commodities. Muslims are encouraged to pay Fitra according to their financial capacity.
Fitra is an obligatory charity distributed to the poor at the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
