Prime Minister's Adviser Ismail Zabihullah
today said that the country's public administration has been politicized for
more than one and a half decades, leading to the erosion of its neutrality
and efficiency.
He noted that the country has faced near a collapse at various levels, and
the administration has not been spared from this decline.
Zabihullah made the observation while speaking to journalists during an
exchange of views with officials at the Lakshmipur Circuit House this
morning.
"We will present the people with an efficient, neutral and merit-based
administration in line with the policy of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Public servants will serve the people, not rule over them. Together, we will
build Bangladesh as a non-discriminatory, inclusive, accountable and
corruption-free country," he said.
The adviser also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for
entrusting him with the responsibility of the Ministry of Public
Administration.
He is a resident of Kamalnagar upazila of the district. This is his maiden
visit to Lakshmipur after being assigned the responsibility of the Ministry
of Public Administration.
Referring to Tarique Rahman's announcement "I have a plan," Ismail Zabihullah
said that the Prime Minister has already started implementing it and has
plunged into the task.
Like a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of an organisation, he is looking into
and monitoring every detail and ensuring implementation accordingly.
He continued, "This is remarkable and exceptional in the world. It is an
inspiration for us and has been highly appreciated internationally. We hope
for a bright future for Bangladesh."
He went on, saying that they have a spiritual connection with BNP's electoral
symbol "Sheaf of Paddy", adding "Our core identity and main message is
Bangladesh first."
Noting that the situation before the election was one kind, and after the
election it has completely changed, the adviser said, "Now the responsibility
lies with all of us."
"We went to the people with our commitments and sought votes, and the people
voted for us overwhelmingly. BNP has achieved victory with an absolute
majority. This victory carries a huge responsibility and accountability.
Keeping that in mind, we will work together in the days ahead," he added.
Earlier, Ismail Zabihullah was accorded a guard of honour by the
administration. Later, he exchanged greetings with officials and leaders and
activists of the party.
