The eighth National Voters' Day is being observed today across the country with the theme "Voters' Power is the Liberation of Democracy."
The Election Commission (EC), however, has suspended all programmes marking the day until further notice.
In an official order, the Commission said that both central and field-level programmes scheduled to celebrate the occasion have been postponed.
Director (Public Relations) and Information Officer of the EC Secretariat Md Ruhul Amin Mollik told BSS that although the day will be observed formally on March 2, no programmes will take place as the Commission has decided to suspend all activities marking the event.
He said the programmes will be arranged at a later date.
According to EC data, the total number of registered voters in the country now stands at 12,77,11,793. Of them, 6,48,25,361 are male, 6,28,85,200 female and 1,232 transgender voters.
