Prime Minister (PM) Tarique Rahman on Thursday directed authorities to establish language training centres across the country to prepare skilled workers and help them to secure overseas employment.
The directive came during a meeting, held at the Secretariat, of a committee formed to expand overseas employment and ensure the welfare of expatriates, said PM’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon.
According to him, the PM asked the relevant ministries to take prompt steps to equip unemployed youths with the skills needed to secure jobs abroad.
He instructed authorities to set up language training centres with the involvement of both local and foreign teachers so that job seekers can learn different languages and improve their prospects of overseas employment.
The meeting also discussed ways to quickly expand overseas job opportunities and other related issues.
Among those present were Labour and Employment and Expatriates’ Welfare Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury, State Minister Nurul Haque Nur, Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin and Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, along with secretaries and senior officials from relevant ministries.
Rumon said the prime minister also directed authorities to introduce low-interest bank loans and simplify the loan process so that job seekers do not have to sell property to finance overseas employment.
The prime minister also asked the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry to introduce free WiFi at the terminals of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Shah Amanat International Airport and MAG Osmani International Airport, similar to facilities available at many airports in developed countries.
Rumon said Tarique Rahman has also taken steps to fulfil an election pledge in his constituency, Dhaka-17, by renovating a temple belonging to the Hindu community near the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital in Mahakhali.
Renovation work is scheduled to begin on Saturday.
Administrators of the two Dhaka city corporations, Abdus Salam and Shafiqul Islam Milton, along with Tarique Rahman’s election coordinator for Dhaka-17, Farhad Halim Dona, are expected to visit the site at 11 AM on the day, he added.
