Two newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) – Mahmudul Haque Rubel from Sherpur-3 and Rezaul Karim Badsha from Bogura-6 – were sworn in on Sunday.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at 12pm at the Speaker’s Chamber of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, where Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad administered the oath.
Later, the two MPs signed the oath register and exchanged greetings with the Speaker.
Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman was present at the oath-taking ceremony.
Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, the Chief Whip, other whips, lawmakers, the Prime Minister’s press secretary and senior officials of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, among others, attended the ceremony.
Earlier, the 13th parliamentary election was held on February 12, when voting took place in 299 out of 300 constituencies. Polling in Sherpur-3 was postponed before the polls following the death of a valid candidate.
The Bogura-6 seat fell vacant after Tarique Rahman vacated it, prompting a by-election. Voting in both Sherpur-3 and Bogura-6 was held on April 9.
The Election Commission published the gazette of the two winners on Saturday.
With the latest development, a total of 298 MPs have so far taken oath as members of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
However, the results of Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4 constituencies have yet to be declared due to court directives, pending disposal of related legal cases.
