Law enforcement agencies have intensified block raid operations in crime-prone areas of the capital to maintain law and order and ensure public safety.
Strict action is being taken against those involved in terrorism, extortion, drug trafficking, mugging and other criminal activities in Dhaka Metropolitan City.
Additionally, lists of terrorists, extortionists, and drug dealers are being prepared to further improve the law and order situation.
Deputy Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), N M Nasiruddin, told BSS that block raid operations have been intensified in crime-prone areas of the capital to maintain stability in law and order and ensure the safety of people and their property.
These operations will continue to control crime and bring criminals under the law quickly, he said.
Recently, 54 individuals involved in various crimes were arrested during such operations by the Tejgaon Division of DMP, said Nasiruddin.
He said special block raids were conducted in crime-prone areas under Mohammadpur, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Adabor, Tejgaon, Tejgaon Industrial Area, and Hatirjheel police stations.
In March this year, DMP operations led to the arrest of a total of 9,259 individuals in connection with various crimes, and 1,305 cases were filed.
Additionally, 11 police stations in the capital arrested 2,625 individuals during the same month. Among them, Mohammadpur Police Station arrested 674, Hazaribagh 494, New Market 51, Mirpur 469, Shahbagh 159, Banshal 132, Lalbagh 128, Uttara West 234, Dhanmondi 67, Badda 115, and Motijheel 102 individuals.
Officials concerned stated that law enforcement agencies-including Bangladesh Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID)-are maintaining a strict stance to prevent any form of violence and disorder in the country.
Assistant Inspector General (Media and Public Relations) at Police Headquarters, AHM Shahadat Hossain, said that increased patrols and intelligence activities, continuous operations against criminals, technology-based surveillance, and coordinated cooperation between police and the public have played important roles in improving the law and order situation.
He added that the overall situation is significantly better than before. The police force continues to work to ensure internal security, maintain law and order, prevent and investigate crimes, and safeguard the lives and property of citizens.
Chief of the Detective Branch (DB) of DMP, Additional Police Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam, said that lists of terrorists, extortionists, and drug dealers are being prepared to further improve the situation.
He added that initiatives are being taken to identify criminals' locations through various technologies and take action against them. While the current situation is quite good, he expressed hope that it will improve further.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) continues to work in specialized areas such as murder, money laundering, cybercrime, fraud, organized crime, terrorism, and forensic analysis, and remains active in bringing offenders under the law.
