In a significant breakthrough a decade after the murder of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, an accused individual has been arrested for the first time. Senior Warrant Officer Hafizur Rahman was placed on a three-day remand by a Comilla court on Wednesday.
The Arrest: PBI investigation officer Tarikul Islam arrested Hafizur Rahman from his residence and produced him before the Comilla Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court.
Court Order: Magistrate Mominul Haque granted the remand following the arrest.
DNA Testing: On April 6, the seventh investigation officer of the case sought court permission to cross-match DNA samples from three suspects: Sergeant Zahid, Warrant Officer Hafizur Rahman, and Soldier Shahinul Alam.
Legal Timeline: Over the last 10 years, the case has seen 80 scheduled court dates and has been handled by seven different investigators across four agencies.
At approximately 5:00 PM today, Tonu's parents and her younger brother, Rubel Hossain, arrived at the Comilla court. The process of recording the official statements of Tonu’s parents is currently underway.
