Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the administration to remain firmly by the side of people affected by the ongoing floods and instructed BNP leaders and activists to extend all possible support to the victims, his adviser Mahdi Amin said on Friday.
Mahdi made the remarks while addressing a reunion programme of former students of Government Bangla College in the capital's Mirpur.
He said the prime minister had instructed the administration, law enforcement agencies and all state institutions to work in a coordinated manner to ease the suffering of flood-hit people across the country.
The Prime Minister's Office spokesperson said Tk21.5 million had been allocated from the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund for flood victims. In addition, around 2,500 metric tonnes of rice had been distributed among those affected.
Mahdi said the government was making every effort to meet public expectations and expressed sorrow over the loss of lives caused by the disaster.
