Prime Minister’s Adviser and PMO spokesperson Mahdi Amin on Saturday said the government has been working relentlessly by attaching highest priority to ensuring transparency, good governance, public welfare and fulfilling the people's expectations.
"The government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has completed only 105 days, or five months, in office. In terms of time, this may not seem very long. But for a democratic government, every single day is an opportunity to fulfill the commitments made to the people," he said.
Mahdi added, "Every moment is a test of responsibility and accountability, and every step is a new test of earning the people's trust."
He made the remarks at a press conference at the Karobi Hall of the PMO in the city's Tejgaon area on Saturday afternoon. Prime Minister's Press Wing organised the press conference, marking the completion of five months of the elected government.
The PMO spokesperson said, "We believe the confidence and trust of the people are the greatest strengths of any government. Therefore, we consider it our moral responsibility to keep the people informed about every initiative, every achievement, every reform and every challenge of the government."
After assuming office through the direct votes of the people, he said, the government has primarily given the highest priority to rebuilding democratic institutions and maintaining economic stability.
Measures to control commodity prices, restore discipline in the financial sector, recover laundered money and ensure cost-effective and corruption-free reviews of development projects demonstrate the government's strong commitment to good governance, Mahdi said.
Simultaneously, he said, rehabilitation of recent flood victims and the reconstruction of the damaged and looted health and education sectors are underway.
The PMO spokesperson said, "The government remains fully committed to building an inclusive, discrimination-free and prosperous Bangladesh based on the achievements made in a short period of five months."
