Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday directed the authorities concerned to ensure the nationwide implementation of the Family Card programme through a transparent process backed by a credible and accurate beneficiary database.
The directive came during a meeting at the Cabinet Division in the Bangladesh Secretariat, where officials reviewed the phased expansion strategy of the Family Card programme, according to a press release issued by the Prime Minister's Press Wing.
The meeting assessed the progress of the initiative, one of the key commitments in the BNP's election manifesto, and discussed a roadmap for its gradual rollout across the country.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of preparing a practical implementation plan, strengthening coordination among all relevant ministries and agencies, and making effective use of modern technology to ensure the programme is implemented smoothly nationwide.
He also underscored the need to establish a reliable and widely accepted database to accurately identify genuine beneficiaries, ensuring that Family Card benefits reach eligible recipients in a fair, efficient and transparent manner.
Tarique Rahman instructed the authorities to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability throughout the processes of data collection, verification and beneficiary selection.
The meeting was attended by Social Welfare Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin, Prime Minister's Adviser Mahdi Amin, Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, Chief SDG Coordinator at the Prime Minister's Office Prof Dr SM Abdul Awal, BNP National Executive Committee Special Secretary Belayet Hossain Mridha, and senior officials from the relevant ministries and agencies.
