The government has issued strict instructions to bolster security measures at airports across the country ahead of the upcoming International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) security audit. Key measures include applying a uniform security protocol for all passengers—including VIPs and Commercially Important Persons (CIPs)—and introducing anti-drone systems to prevent unauthorized drone flights near airport zones.
The directives were announced on Thursday (August 6) during the inaugural meeting of the reconstituted National Civil Aviation Security Committee (NCASC) at the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) headquarters. The meeting was chaired by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam, with State Minister M. Rashduzzaman Millat in attendance.
Minister Afroza Khanam emphasized that the country's international image is tied directly to the ICAO audit results, urging agencies to maintain full readiness and comply with global standards. She made it clear that no security concessions will be extended to anyone, regardless of VIP or general passenger status, and called for coordinated efforts to improve services for expatriate travelers.
State Minister M. Rashduzzaman Millat highlighted plans to deploy anti-drone technology to secure airport airspace and stressed the need for adequate reserves of scanning devices and security equipment. The meeting—held after a three-year gap—also covered enhancing intelligence sharing among agencies, adopting modern security tools, tightening access points at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, and finalizing MoUs between relevant agencies for emergency response.
