Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has formally sent a letter to the President demanding the immediate convening of a special session of the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) to address the nation's severe ongoing power and energy shortages, coupled with deteriorating socio-economic and law-and-order conditions.
The formal letter was dispatched to the President on Friday (August 14), with copies forwarded to the Prime Minister and the Parliament Secretariat.
In his letter, Opposition Leader Shafiqur Rahman emphasized that the country is currently enduring an acute electricity crisis. Unrelenting load-shedding has severely disrupted daily public life while dealing a crippling blow to industrial output, commercial trade, and overall economic productivity.
He further noted that the direct fallout from the prolonged power and fuel crunch has triggered rampant price hikes of daily essentials. Exacerbating these hardships is the visible deterioration of the law-and-order situation, pushing ordinary citizens into deep distress and uncertainty.
"As representatives of the people, we cannot remain silent during this critical juncture," stated Shafiqur Rahman in the letter. "Holding meaningful, comprehensive discussions in parliament and finding immediate, actionable solutions to navigate this escalating national crisis is of utmost necessity."
Concluding his letter, the Leader of the Opposition urged the President to promptly summon a special parliamentary session to address and resolve the pressing energy crisis and other compounding national challenges.
