Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) has supplied 2,443 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) of natural gas to the national grid as part of state initiatives aimed at alleviating energy shortages across the country.
Speaking to BSS, Petrobangla Chairman Abdul Mannan stated that efforts are underway to scale up pipeline flows to sustain uninterrupted operations across industrial units and power generation plants while normalizing countrywide distribution networks. He noted that following recent technical disruptions and adverse weather conditions, imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) is being fed back into the national system via two floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) run by Excelerate Energy and Summit Group.
According to operational data released by Petrobangla, the current aggregate daily feed stands at 2,443 MMCFD against growing consumer demand. Of this volume, domestic extraction contributes 1,615 MMCFD, while regasified imported LNG accounts for 828 MMCFD.
Among local producers, international oil company Chevron delivers the largest share at 870 MMCFD, followed by Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) with 477 MMCFD, Sylhet Gas Fields Limited (SGFL) with 139 MMCFD, Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) with 96 MMCFD, and Tullow with 33 MMCFD.
The Petrobangla chief explained that optimizing Excelerate Energy’s terminal to operate at peak rated capacity will require a temporary shutdown to conclude scheduled technical overhauls.
Currently, regasified LNG supply to the national transmission grid has rebounded to 828 MMCFD after both offshore terminals in Moheshkhali resumed operations. Official records show Summit’s floating facility accounts for approximately 450 MMCFD of this regasified volume, with the remainder flowing from Excelerate Energy's offshore terminal.
