Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the foundation stone-laying ceremony and tree plantation program for the development of Sholakia Eidgah Maidan.
A comprehensive development project worth Tk 17 crore has been undertaken to modernize and expand the historic Sholakia Eidgah Maidan in Kishoreganj, announced Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today.
He made the announcement while addressing the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the development work of the historic Sholakia Eidgah grounds and a mass tree plantation drive as the chief guest on Sunday evening.
Highlighting the historic and spiritual heritage of the congregation ground, the prime minister said, "Hundreds of thousands of devotees gather to offer their Eid prayers at the historic Sholakia Eidgah Maidan every year. The upcoming congregation will mark the historic 200th Eid jamaat on this ground. Commemorating this milestone occasion, we have undertaken a Tk 17-crore development project for the overall infrastructure and aesthetic enhancement of the grounds. Under this initiative, Tk 6 crore has already been disbursed to the Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner from state funds. Visible infrastructural development will be accomplished very shortly."
He assured that construction and landscaping work would begin immediately, transforming the Eidgah grounds into a modernized facility so that visiting devotees can perform their prayers with greater ease, comfort, and safety.

Following the foundation-laying ceremony, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman participated in an extensive tree plantation program organized by the Kishoreganj District Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. He planted saplings with his own hands, emphasizing the crucial need for environmental conservation and urban greening.
Calling for large-scale afforestation across the Sholakia premises, Tarique Rahman remarked, "Just like the Plains of Arafat, we want to line this historic ground with neem trees. As these neem trees mature, they will provide vital natural shade and health benefits to the devotees during Eid, as well as to local children playing and residents taking morning and evening walks."
The prime minister's visit generated immense enthusiasm and festive fervor among the local population across Kishoreganj. Large crowds of residents from various walks of life gathered at the Sholakia grounds to catch a glimpse of the prime minister and listen to his address.
