Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi addresses a reception honoring the visiting CII business delegation in Dhaka.
Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi on Tuesday stated that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will be accorded the highest honor and a truly memorable reception befitting his stature upon his visit to India, expressing New Delhi's keen anticipation to welcome him.
Speaking at a reception hosted by the Indian High Commission at The Westin Dhaka in honor of a visiting high-profile business delegation from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the envoy emphasized that the ultimate benefits of constructive high-level bilateral engagement will directly reach the ordinary citizens of both nations.
The reception was attended by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, CII Director General Chandrajit Banerjee, and top business leaders and apex trade body chiefs from Bangladesh and India.
High Commissioner Trivedi noted that following his introductory meeting with the Prime Minister on August 10—where he conveyed New Delhi's official invitation for a state visit along with his family—he traveled directly to New Delhi to brief Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He shared that Prime Minister Modi emphasized the urgency of holding a leadership summit soon and instructed him to reassure Dhaka that the Bangladeshi leader would receive an extraordinary welcome.
Characterizing temporary diplomatic frictions as manageable disagreements within a broader family, Trivedi reiterated India’s 'Neighbourhood First' doctrine. He underscored that enduring relationships rest upon unconditional mutual trust, shared history, and sovereign equality, expressing firm confidence that bilateral ties will reach greater heights under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with business communities bridging remaining gaps.
Addressing the gathering, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam acknowledged India as a major regional trading partner but highlighted that bilateral commerce remains structurally imbalanced and well below its actual potential. She called for expanding genuine economic partnerships, removing non-tariff barriers, and introducing expedited or instant business visa processing to enable Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to interact more spontaneously and frequently with their Indian counterparts.
CII Director General Chandrajit Banerjee expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality received from the Bangladesh government and industry leaders, pledging to work closely toward unlocking deeper trade and industrial investment opportunities across both markets.
