Prime Minister Tarique Rahman
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to undertake an official visit to New York in September to lead the Bangladesh delegation and address the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
According to confirmed updates from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, the head of government is expected to stay in New York from September 21 to September 29, or within proximate dates, to take part in the annual high-level general debate. This diplomatic mission marks Tarique Rahman’s first official visit to New York as head of government, where he will deliver his debut address before the UN General Assembly to present Bangladesh’s diplomatic priorities, foreign policy vision, and national perspectives on critical multilateral challenges.
The 81st UNGA session carries exceptional diplomatic weight for Dhaka, as the proceedings will be presided over by the newly elected President of the UN General Assembly, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, who also serves as Bangladesh’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. Diplomatic analysts consider the concurrent presence of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister on the rostrum alongside a Bangladeshi national presiding over the global assembly to be a landmark milestone in the country's multilateral engagement.
Beyond delivering his formal address in the General Assembly Hall, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend a formal reception hosted by United States President Donald Trump. His mission itinerary also includes addressing a broad community exchange with non-resident Bangladeshi expatriates residing in the United States, as well as engaging in high-level bilateral sideline discussions with several heads of state and government to strengthen bilateral cooperation across mutual political, economic, and strategic interests.
