The government has formally distributed ministerial responsibilities for managing legislative proceedings and parliamentary business across various ministries and divisions in the 13th National Parliament.
According to a gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Monday, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will directly oversee parliamentary affairs relating to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). In the Prime Minister’s absence, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed will discharge parliamentary responsibilities for the PMO, with Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Minister Abu Zafar Md. Zahid Hossain and Industries, Textiles, Jute, and Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir designated as alternative roster ministers.
The notification also establishes designated alternates across several key ministries to ensure smooth legislative operations during the absence of principal ministers:
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives: Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan will manage legislative affairs, with State Minister for Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam acting as alternate.
Food: Minister Afroza Khanam will lead the ministry's parliamentary desk, with Minister for Fisheries, Livestock, and Agriculture Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid designated as alternate.
Information and Broadcasting: Minister Andalib Rahman will manage proceedings, with State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury serving as alternate.
Civil Aviation and Tourism / Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs: Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat (Civil Aviation and Tourism) and Minister Saching Prue (Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs) will lead their respective dockets, with State Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin standing in as alternate for either portfolio.
The Cabinet Division stated that the revised orders take immediate effect, keeping other provisions of the previous parliamentary allocation order intact. The realignment follows the swearing-in of four new ministers and two state ministers on August 21 and the subsequent redistribution of executive portfolios.
