Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman
Bangladesh has successfully established a proud and self-reliant stance in the global arena, effectively breaking away from the submissive diplomatic posture maintained over the previous decade and a half, stated Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman.
Addressing lawmakers during a parliamentary session, he attributed this diplomatic turnaround to the courageous and far-sighted foreign strategy adopted by the current administration under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
Responding to a supplementary query posed by ruling party legislator Mohammad Fazle Huda representing Naogaon-3, the foreign minister emphasized that the nation has firmly discarded what he described as a kneeling foreign policy.
"Bangladesh has been able to stand tall in the international arena with a self-reliant and firm foreign policy under the present government, adding that the country has buried its kneeling foreign policy by overcoming the weak diplomatic position of the past 15 years."
Elaborating on future diplomatic directions, he affirmed that state foreign policy will continue to progress in a structured and visionary manner guided by this strong leadership framework.
Addressing queries concerning the operational efficiency of overseas diplomatic missions and the expansion of foreign employment sectors, Dr. Khalilur revealed that policymakers are actively contemplating a specialized incentive framework to reward missions excelling in job creation, labor market diversification, manpower export growth, and trade volume enhancement.
Reflecting on past governance, the foreign minister alleged that for fifteen years of misrule, state foreign policy and diplomatic embassies operated without adequate administrative oversight or proper governmental control.
"There was no visible interest or effective oversight by the previous government regarding the overall activities of embassies, services for expatriate Bangladeshis, and protection of the country's economic and political interests."
He noted that the current administration successfully dismantled that period of diplomatic stagnation and inefficiency upon taking charge.
Detailing upcoming structural reforms aimed at boosting embassy efficiency, the minister announced that authorities are formulating a Key Performance Indicator framework to systematically evaluate the functioning of every Bangladeshi mission worldwide.
He further assured the assembly that comprehensive evaluations detailing the achievements and shortcomings of respective embassies will be formally disclosed to parliamentarians during the presentation of the upcoming national budget.
Concluding his remarks, the minister pointed out that the current fiscal allocation designated for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains severely limited relative to the nation's strategic geographical footprint, economic goals, and international diplomatic demands.
