National Parliament
The National Parliament has constituted five additional ministry-related parliamentary standing committees, with none of the chairman posts allocated to opposition lawmakers. Concurrently, the standing committees on the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism have been reconstituted.
The committees were formed and reshuffled on Tuesday (September 8) during a parliamentary session chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed. The proposals were tabled by Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni and subsequently passed by voice vote. All newly announced chairmanships went to members of the ruling party.
The newly constituted standing committees cover the Ministry of Social Welfare, Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Science and Technology, and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Among the appointments, Noakhali-4 MP Md. Shahjahan was named chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Social Welfare; the BNP lawmaker also chairs the Committee on Private Members' Bills and Private Members' Resolutions. Gazipur-5 MP A. K. M. Fazlul Haque Milon was appointed chairman of the Expatriates' Welfare Committee, while Khulna-5 MP Mohammad Ali Asgar Lobi was named head of the Railways Committee. Whip M Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu was selected to chair the Committee on the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Gazipur-3 MP S. M. Rafiqul Islam was appointed chairman of the Health and Family Welfare Committee.
Out of 50 total parliamentary committees—comprising 39 ministry-related and 11 subject-specific bodies—45 have now been constituted, including 36 ministry-related standing committees and nine subject-specific bodies.
In the reconstituted panels, Mazharul Islam and Faridul Kabir Talukdar replaced A. K. M. Fazlul Haque Milon and Munshi Rafiqul Alam on the Water Resources Standing Committee. Meanwhile, in the Standing Committee on Civil Aviation and Tourism, Jamaat member Kamrul Hasan replaced party colleague Masum Mostafa.
