Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman stated that the government has implemented comprehensive measures to ensure no citizen is deprived of access to legal assistance. To achieve this objective, the government has formalized partnership agreements with various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) actively providing legal aid across the country. He made these remarks as the chief guest on Saturday afternoon (September 12) at a seminar titled "Employment, Financial Inclusion, and Poverty Alleviation in the Microcredit Sector: Problems and Prospects," organized by the Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) at the Jessore PTI Auditorium.
Addressing the controversy surrounding the recent amendments to the property transfer framework, Asaduzzaman dismissed the debate as baseless, clarifying that the 1882 Transfer of Property Act was amended specifically to safeguard elderly parents. He observed that certain quarters have attempted to portray the changes as a violation of the traditional Hiba (gift) provisions under Muslim personal law.
However, the minister firmly underscored that the amended law explicitly ensures property transfers under Hiba or any other legal mechanisms across all religious communities remain entirely unhindered. He added that the statute poses no barrier to standard gifts, wills, or any legitimate property transactions. Emphasizing that critics are politicizing the reform without thoroughly reviewing the legislative text, the Law Minister urged all stakeholders to read the statutory provisions carefully before raising objections.
