Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a high-level breakfast meeting with representatives of prominent international charitable, philanthropic, and humanitarian organizations at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York on Wednesday.
The engagement, held at 8:30 AM local time, forms an integral part of the Prime Minister’s official mission to attend the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Senior executives and delegates from leading global organizations attended the dialogue, including representatives from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Visa Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, International Rescue Committee (IRC), and Rotary International. The meeting provided a forum to present Bangladesh’s perspective on critical global priorities such as complex humanitarian emergencies, international development partnerships, climate vulnerability, sustainable development goals (SDGs), and macroeconomic resilience.
Discussions focused on deepening strategic partnerships to advance socioeconomic programs, humanitarian relief operations, and technology-driven development initiatives in Bangladesh. The Prime Minister highlighted the essential role of multilateral philanthropic assistance in alleviating poverty, strengthening healthcare systems, modernizing education, bolstering social safety nets, and building community-level climate resilience.
Following the breakfast session, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to participate in a high-level UN sideline event on the Rohingya crisis, titled "A Renewed Call for Sustainable Solutions: From Protracted Displacement to Justice and Accountability," focusing on safe, dignified repatriation and international legal accountability. He is also slated to attend a forum titled "Climate Action and the Just Transition," before delivering Bangladesh’s national statement at the UNGA General Debate on September 24—marking his first address to the assembly as Prime Minister.
