The Prime Minister’s Press Wing on Saturday dismissed social media claims alleging that an official photograph showing Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, with US President Donald Trump was artificial intelligence (AI)-generated or manipulated, describing the assertions as a deliberate disinformation campaign.
The original photograph was taken on September 22 in New York during a formal reception and dinner hosted by President Donald Trump in honour of visiting heads of state and their spouses attending the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Courtesy of the White House, the image was officially released to the public by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Saturday (October 3).
In a statement issued Saturday night, the Prime Minister’s Press Wing clarified that a vested quarter began circulating propaganda to discredit the authentic photograph by circulating an actual manipulated image alongside it.
The statement explained that the smear effort relied on an AI-manipulated satirical image previously circulated involving Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Donald Trump, wherein Trump was portrayed as a cardboard cutout. Propagandists attempted to equate the genuine photo of Tarique Rahman with that satire to falsely allege that the Prime Minister's photo was fabricated.
The Press Wing highlighted that on October 2, 2026, the Albania-based analytical media platform Pamfleti.net published a fact-check report examining the Kurti-Trump image, conclusively establishing it as an AI-generated manipulation. The PM's Press Wing stated that malicious actors are weaponizing that debunked, fabricated imagery to sow confusion and question the authenticity of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Dr. Zubaida Rahman's high-level engagement at the White House reception.
