Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today inaugurated a three-day housing fair marking the World Habitat Day 2026.
The Prime Minister inaugurated the fair at the lobby of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre after attending a discussion organised to mark the World Habitat Day this morning.
The fair features 157 stalls representing REHAB, the construction sector, banking services, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), the Department of Architecture, the Public Works Department, urban planning and various departments and agencies under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
After inaugurating the fair, Tarique Rahman visited different stalls and was briefed on the activities of various organisations from the housing and construction sectors and government agencies. Later, he signed a visitors’ book at the fair.
Earlier, the Ministry of Housing and Public Works organised a discussion marking the World Habitat Day 2026 under the theme “Universal Housing, Sustainable Urbanisation”.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended the discussion as the chief guest.
During the programme, the Prime Minister unveiled the cover of a commemorative publication marking the World Habitat Day.
In his speech, Tarique Rahman stressed the need to ensure safe, affordable and quality housing for every citizen alongside planned and sustainable urbanisation.
Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher presided over the programme, while Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo, Housing and Public Works State Minister Ahammad Sohel Monzoor, UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Carol Flore-Smereczniak and Secretary of the ministry Md. Obaidur Rahman spoke.
Ministers and state ministers from different ministries, advisers to the Prime Minister, special assistants and senior government officials attended the programme.
Earlier, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman planted a ‘Golden Champa’ sapling on the premises of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
