State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury today said the Universal Pension Scheme (UPS) is not merely a financial benefit for retirement rather it is a long-term social security system aimed at securing people’s future.
“Under this system, a citizen will make regular contributions while they are economically active and will receive financial support later in life based on those savings. It is a far-reaching and planned social investment,” he said.
Yasser made the remarks while virtually addressing a discussion and cultural programme as the chief guest on the occasion of the Mymensingh Divisional Universal Pension Fair 2026 at the Circuit House ground here.
Noting that the UPS has four schemes- Prabash, Pragati, Surakkha and Samata, he said eligible individuals can choose a scheme according to their circumstances.
Through these schemes, there is an opportunity not only to secure one’s own future but also the future of one’s children, he said.
He called upon everyone to encourage their family members, relatives and colleagues to join the government’s pension schemes, saying that participation in the scheme is very important for a bright future and the security of one’s family.
Mymensingh-4 MP Md Abu Wahab Akanda Wahid spoke Finance Division Joint Secretary Sharif Mohammad Nazrul Islam and Bangladesh Bank’s Mymensingh Branch Executive Director Arifuzzaman also spoke with Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Azad Jahan in the chair.
National Pension Authority Executive Chairman Dr Md Suratuzzaman also delivered the keynote paper.
Officials concerned, representatives of different political and social organizations were present at the event.
Earlier, a colourful rally was brought out from the premises of the Office of the Divisional Commissioner in Mymensingh on the occasion of the fair.
It passed through important roads of the city and ended at the fair venue at the Circuit House field.
