Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud with Algerian Hydrocarbons Minister Mohamed Arkab
Bangladesh and Algeria have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bolster bilateral cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector, paving the way for government-to-government (G2G) imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and refined petroleum products.
The agreement was signed on Tuesday (October 20) by Bangladesh Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud and Algerian Hydrocarbons Minister Mohamed Arkab. During bilateral discussions, delegations from both nations explored joint initiatives in developing domestic LNG and LPG infrastructure, alongside technical cooperation in the exploration of crude oil, natural gas, and coal reserves.
The Bangladeshi minister also urged his Algerian counterpart to facilitate specialized training programs for Bangladeshi engineers and technicians, allowing them to draw on Algeria’s advanced technical expertise and operational best practices. Expressing satisfaction over the accord, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud stated that the partnership will play a vital role in reinforcing Bangladesh’s long-term energy security by securing reliable, alternative supply channels from Africa under G2G frameworks.
