Bilateral signing ceremony between Bangladesh and Iraq in Baghdad
Bangladesh and Iraq have signed two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to mutually waive visa requirements for diplomatic and official passport holders and to institute regular political consultations between both nations.
The agreements were signed on Saturday (October 17) in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on the sidelines of the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Bangladesh's State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir and Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammed Hussein inked the accords on behalf of their respective governments.
According to a press release issued by Mahmudul Hasan, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visa waiver pact allows diplomatic and official passport holders from both nations to travel reciprocally without visas. The second instrument establishes an institutional framework for structured bilateral consultations on political and mutual foreign policy issues.
Both foreign dignitaries reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and collaborative opportunities across diplomatic channels. They expressed hope that the twin MoUs will expand reciprocal engagement and generate fresh avenues for multifaceted partnership. Bangladesh Ambassador to Iraq Major General Md. Maksudul Haque was also in attendance during the signing ceremony.
