President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has extended greetings and congratulations to members of the Hindu community residing both at home and abroad on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja. He also expressed his hope for further strengthening communal harmony, friendship, and fraternity across religious and ethnic divides.
The President conveyed his greetings to Sanatan devotees in an official statement sent to the media on Friday (October 16).
In his statement, the President remarked that Durga Puja represents the foremost religious festival for the Bengali-speaking Hindu community. Against the festive backdrop of clear autumn skies and white catkin blossoms, the annual arrival of Goddess Durga awakens renewed hope and a resolve for general well-being among devotees. He noted that the core message of the festival lies in vanquishing evil forces and celebrating the triumph of truth, beauty, and righteousness. The celebration also reflects an enduring call for justice and humanity against oppression, untruth, and inhumanity.
He noted that the Hindu community has traditionally celebrated Durga Puja in Bangladesh across generations amid festive enthusiasm, offering a prime example of enduring communal harmony. Durga Puja transcends its character as a religious festival to weave into traditional Bengali society, culture, and heritage, uniting people from all strata of life in goodwill and mutual empathy. Expressing his hopes, he urged all stakeholders to ensure that all religious denominations, including Hindus, can practice their rites fearlessly, independently, and safely.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized that the incumbent democratic government remains committed to securing religious freedom and equal civic rights in this land of communal harmony. Alongside supporting the management, renovation, and development of temples, the administration is providing monthly honorariums to priests and reinforcing the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust's initiatives. Reminding the public that religion guides humanity toward truth, justice, and self-restraint, he called upon the citizenry to ensure that no individual suffers discrimination or insecurity due to their communal identity, while urging the fortunate to share the festive joys with marginalized communities.
