Prime Minister Tarique Rahman
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has extended greetings to members of the Hindu community across Bangladesh and around the world on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja. Reaffirming the principle of inclusivity, he stated, "Faith is personal, but the state belongs to everyone. Faith is personal, but the right to security belongs to all." He urged Hindu devotees nationwide to celebrate the festival with enthusiasm, peace of mind, and complete safety.
The Prime Minister conveyed his message in an official statement issued on Friday (October 16).
In his message, the Prime Minister observed that according to Hindu belief, Goddess Durga descends from heaven to earth to ensure universal welfare, bless devotees, destroy evil forces, and protect creation. This spiritual quest to vanquish dark forces in pursuit of truth and beauty gives Sharadiya Durga Puja its distinctive resonance.
He noted that people of diverse faiths throughout Bangladesh participate in their respective festivals, showcasing the beauty of the nation's traditional social values and cultural pluralism. Such religious and cultural celebrations strengthen communal harmony, mutual affection, and fraternity across religious, ethnic, and community lines.
Emphasizing that equality, human dignity, and social justice form the core principles of every faith, he said that fostering mutual respect and empathy alongside practicing religious rites is essential for maintaining social tranquility.
The Prime Minister underscored that after overthrowing fascism at the cost of thousands of lives, Bangladesh has resumed its democratic journey and initiated the massive task of state reconstruction. He reiterated his administration's commitment to building a welfare-oriented, secure, and humane nation for all citizens, irrespective of party, opinion, creed, or color.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expressed hope that the country's pluralistic society would be enriched by the spirit of goodwill and harmony, wishing the Hindu community unhindered and joyful celebrations across the nation.
