Prime Minister Tarique Rahman addressing the Youth Volunteer Award ceremony
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman highlighted the pivotal role of the youth in national progress, stating that young people must spearhead efforts to advance the country. Addressing youth representatives, he emphasized that their primary motto should be "Bangladesh first, and Bangladesh for all" to safeguard the rights of every citizen and build an inclusive society.
He made the observations as the chief guest on Saturday evening (October 17) at the "Youth Volunteer Award 2026 and Grant Distribution" ceremony, hosted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports at the Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka.
Commending young volunteers who step forward during national crises alongside their studies and careers, the Prime Minister noted that monumental shifts—including the 1971 Liberation War and the 2024 mass uprising—were driven by youth action on the ground while seniors provided strategic guidance. He affirmed that pre-election pledges belong to the entire populace, and the administration is actively executing them.
Highlighting initiatives for emerging entrepreneurs, Tarique Rahman announced that the government is rolling out an initial Tk 500-crore startup fund, which will be expanded as needed to harness the potential of skilled youth. During the ceremony, the Prime Minister conferred the Youth Volunteer Award 2026 upon 15 young leaders and organizational representatives, each receiving Tk 1 lakh, a memento, and a certificate. Additionally, Tk 2 lakh each was disbursed to 432 youth organizations to expand grassroots community work. State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque and Political Adviser Mirza Abbas also attended the event, while delegates from all 64 districts joined virtually.
