BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said that anarchy and corruption have reached extreme levels in all areas of Bangladesh. It is the demand of the hour to rein in corruption and the law and order situation. If we fail to rein in it, all development will be delayed.
He said, "Only BNP can rein in corruption in Bangladesh. We must rein in corruption, that is BNP's commitment."
Tarique Rahman made these remarks while joining the closing ceremony of the 'BNP's Nation Building Plan' program at the Krishibid Institution Auditorium in Khamarbari, Farmgate, in the capital on Sunday (December 7) while virtually joining from London.
He said, "Corruption and law and order must be curbed now. If these two crises are not addressed, any plan in the women, agriculture and health sectors will fail. BNP has the ability to curb corruption."
He complained that some people are criticizing BNP like dictators. However, during the BNP government, they had two ministers. They remained in the cabinet till the last day and proved that Begum Khaleda Zia's stand against corruption was clear.
The acting chairman of the party said that none of the allegations against the BNP have been proven in court.
Regarding the formation of a national government, Tarique Rahman said, "On the day of the fall of the dictatorship, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir wanted to know whether a national government would be formed or not? We said, we will go to the people. Because the people are the source of our strength."
Criticizing one or two political parties, he said, "Those who say they haven't seen us (BNP), look now, their people saw us in 1971. The nation has not forgotten how they killed, looted and tortured. So there is nothing to see them again."
He said that when the country went through various crises, BNP gradually improved the situation. Millions of people gave their lives to make the country independent, and we have to work shoulder to shoulder to build that country.
Tarique Rahman said that BNP does not want to make Bangladesh like Singapore, Malaysia, Canada or America, they want to build a self-reliant Bangladesh.
He also said that only the people and democracy can thwart all conspiracies against the country.
