BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has said the party wants to combat harassment against women on social media, describing the phenomenon as a growing trend.
This issue will be a top priority for the party, Tarique said today (10 January) during a meeting and exchange of greetings with editors and journalists from national newspapers, radio, television, news agencies, and online media at the Sheraton Dhaka in Banani. At the beginning of the event, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said he wanted to first remember the late Khaleda Zia, describing her as a courageous woman who dedicated her entire life to the struggle for freeing democracy in Bangladesh and who passed away a few days ago.Fakhrul remembered the martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971 and those who lost their lives in the July Uprising.
He added that during a difficult time, Tarique returned to the country from abroad, and people across the country are looking towards him with great expectations.
"A real opportunity has emerged to establish a truly liberal democratic system," Fakhrul said.
