The Election Commission has declared valid the nomination paper of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Chairman Col. (retd.) Oli Ahmad, the presidential candidate fielded by the 11-party alliance led by the parliamentary opposition Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, acting as the returning officer for the presidential election, validated Oli Ahmad’s nomination following a formal scrutiny process at the Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The scrutiny took place in the conference room of the Chief Election Commissioner in the presence of leaders from the 11-party alliance. Two separate sets of nomination papers had initially been submitted on behalf of Oli Ahmad; under standard electoral rules, the validation of the primary nomination paper automatically rendered the secondary submission redundant.
