Islami Andolan Bangladesh Secretary General Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman.
Islami Andolan Bangladesh Secretary General Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman has asserted that while faces at the helm of power changed following the July mass uprising, meaningful qualitative transformation of the state apparatus remains unrealized.
Addressing the party’s regular executive meeting as chair at its central office in Purana Paltan, Dhaka, on Tuesday, Gazi Ataur Rahman stated that ordinary citizens continue to wait in vain for relief regarding basic livelihood issues. He pointed out that essential commodity prices remain out of reach, recurrent disruptions plague the energy and power sector, public safety shows no marked improvement, and private investment sentiment remains precarious.
He argued that although six months have elapsed under the incumbent administration, national conditions have failed to register tangible progress because systemic state structures remain unchanged and fundamental policy reforms have not been executed.
During the meeting, party leaders voiced serious concern over mounting public suffering and disrupted industrial production caused by severe gas and electricity shortages, urging authorities to devise durable, long-term solutions for the energy sector.
Gazi Ataur Rahman emphasized that comprehensive structural reforms are indispensable to fulfill public aspirations. He advocated for institutional restructuring, particularly the creation of an upper parliamentary chamber based on proportional representation of general votes. He cautioned that without radical reforms, the country will struggle to achieve its democratic goals even over the next five years.
The meeting was attended by Islami Andolan Bangladesh Joint Secretaries General Ashraful Alam and Nesar Uddin, Assistant Secretaries General Ahmad Abdul Qayyum and Sheikh Fazlul Karim Maruf, alongside Central Office Secretaries Lokman Hossain Jafri and K M Shariatullah.
