BNP Senior Leader Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi
Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Member of the National Standing Committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), stated on Wednesday that upholding pledges and honoring public commitments form the core political culture of the BNP, emphasizing that an administration elected through free, fair, and credible polls remains accountable to fulfill its promises to the citizenry.
Rizvi made the remarks while addressing journalists after laying wreaths and paying homage at the gravesites of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman, and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia at Zia Udyan in Dhaka, marking the 46th founding anniversary of the Jatiyatabadi Jatiotabadi Swechchhasebak Dal.
Sharply criticizing the governance track record of the previous administration, Rizvi noted that high-profile past electoral pledges regarding employment and agricultural support went unfulfilled, leaving behind steep regional unemployment. He contrasted this record by underscoring that the current government is actively delivering on its socio-economic roadmaps.
Highlighting targeted social safety net interventions, Rizvi outlined ongoing nationwide programs:
Family and Farmer Support: Distribution of targeted "Family Cards" to female household heads and "Farmer Cards" to agricultural workers, alongside full principal and interest debt waivers up to BDT 10,000 benefiting approximately 1.3 million farmers.
Honorariums for Religious Leaders: Implementation of institutional monthly allowances for imams, muezzins, and clergy representing diverse religious faiths, fulfilling previous policy commitments.
Afforestation and Water Management: Progress under national initiatives, including planting roughly 30 million saplings toward a 250 million target, alongside the excavation and desilting of 10,000 kilometers of canals within six months toward a 20,000-kilometer goal.
Addressing Bangladesh's foreign relations, Rizvi asserted that the nation pursues constructive bilateral ties strictly anchored in mutual equality, sovereign respect, and territorial integrity, stressing that genuine international cooperation cannot function under unilateral conditions.
Senior BNP leaders attending the commemorative event included Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Sopu, Assistant Volunteer Affairs Secretary Abdul Quader Bhuiyan Jewel, Swechchhasebak Dal President SM Jilani, and General Secretary Rajib Ahsan.
