Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman
Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has stated that there is no objection to the Prime Minister visiting India or any other country across the globe, provided bilateral diplomatic engagements are conducted strictly on the principles of sovereign equality, mutual dignity, and genuine friendship.
Addressing as the chief guest at the Rajshahi Metropolitan Jamaat members' (Rukon) conference held at the Rajshahi Zilla Parishad auditorium on Friday afternoon, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized national sovereignty and foreign policy equilibrium.
"The Prime Minister is free to travel across the world, and there is no impediment to visiting India," the Opposition Leader remarked. "However, such state visits must be anchored in equality, mutual respect, and friendship. The people of Bangladesh will no longer tolerate foreign dominance or hegemony from any corner. Our relationship with India must be built on equal dignity, reciprocity, and mutual respect."
Turning to domestic governance, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman called for decisive administrative action against financial misconduct: "Prime Minister Tarique Rahman concurrently serves as the head of government and the chief of his political party. If he exercises firm political will, he possesses the authority to decisively eradicate ongoing extortion, entrenched corruption, and bribery. These irregularities can be halted if there is genuine intent; the crucial question remains whether the political leadership will actively choose to enforce it."
Addressing party cadres, the Jamaat Ameer characterized his party as an ideologically grounded platform that has consistently worked toward social reform, ethical governance, and public trust. Looking ahead to upcoming local government elections, he urged party grassroots workers to remain vigilant alongside citizens to safeguard voting rights and prevent electoral irregularities.
The conference was presided over by Rajshahi Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer and Member of Parliament Keramat Ali, and moderated by Secretary Imaz Uddin Mondal. Central Nayeb-e-Ameer MP Mujibur Rahman attended as a special guest. Key speeches were also delivered by Assistant Secretary General MP Rafiqul Islam Khan, Dhaka South Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer MP Nurul Islam Bulbul, Assistant Regional Director Rafiqul Islam, Central Working Council Member Nazrul Islam, and Rajshahi District Jamaat Ameer Abdul Khalek.
