Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim
Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and widely known as the Pir of Charmonai, has called upon Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to steer national governance in strict alignment with public aspirations and prioritize the fundamental rights of citizens.
Addressing as the chief guest at the Dhaka Metropolitan North regional conference of Islami Andolan Bangladesh at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) on Friday afternoon, the Islamic leader raised concerns over post-uprising governance.
"The historic downfall of authoritarianism in 2024, achieved through the supreme sacrifice of thousands of lives, now appears to be fading in impact," Rezaul Karim remarked. "You must administer the state by prioritizing popular expectations. Take immediate and effective measures to fulfill the fundamental needs of the people; otherwise, the government risks losing the essential cooperation and trust of the populace."
Rezaul Karim argued that the core ideals for which millions sacrificed their lives during the 1971 Liberation War remain unfulfilled. He stated that successive regimes over the past 55 years of independence have presided over human rights violations and pointed to current challenges in maintaining public order and the rule of law.
Critiquing previous and existing governance frameworks, he asserted that political models practiced by major parties—including the BNP, Awami League, and Jatiya Party—have failed to deliver lasting societal peace. He emphasized that rampant capital flight, unjust detentions, and extrajudicial suffering continue unabated, presenting Islamic principles as the definitive framework for ethical governance, social justice, and institutional accountability.
The Islami Andolan chief also strongly condemned the recent fatal attack on Islami Juba Andolan leader Mujahidul Islam Bulbul in Narayanganj, demanding the immediate arrest and expedited maximum punishment of all perpetrators involved in the murder.
Presided over by Islami Andolan Dhaka Metropolitan North President Sheikh Fazle Bari Masood, the conference was addressed by key party figures, including party adviser and former interim government religious affairs adviser Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain, Secretary General Gazi Ataur Rahman, Joint Secretaries General Ashraful Alam and Nesar Uddin, and Assistant Secretaries General Ahmad Abdul Kaiyum, K M Atiqur Rahman, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Maruf, Lokman Hossain Jafri, and Rezaul Karim Abrar.
At the conclusion of the event, the Charmonai Pir announced the new executive committee of Islami Andolan Dhaka Metropolitan North for the 2027–28 tenure, appointing Atiqur Rahman Mujahid as president and Nurul Islam Naeem as secretary.
