Ruhul Kabir Rizvi
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi conducted his inaugural official duties at the party’s central headquarters in Naya Paltan on Sunday following his elevation to the post of Acting Secretary General.
Arriving at the central office around 11:00 AM, Rizvi engaged in executive administrative responsibilities before meeting delegations of central leaders, grassroots activists, affiliated wing representatives, and senior figures from the 12-party political alliance, who extended floral greetings and felicitations. Prior to arriving at the party headquarters, he visited the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area in the capital to pay solemn homage and offer prayers at the mausoleum of party founder Ziaur Rahman and the grave of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
Responding to inquiries from journalists regarding his presence at the central office, Rizvi remarked that Naya Paltan has always been his regular base of operations, noting that his physical connection and daily engagements at the headquarters remain unchanged despite assuming the mantle of Acting Secretary General.
Rizvi’s relationship with the Naya Paltan headquarters carries deep historical and personal resonance. Serving as the Senior Joint Secretary General during the previous regime, he coordinated routine party activities from the central office starting in 2015. Amid intensified crackdowns and widespread arrests of political activists, Rizvi took up continuous residence inside a small third-floor administrative room of the headquarters on January 30, 2018. Following the imprisonment of party chairperson Khaleda Zia in February that year, he remained permanently stationed inside the premises for security and organizational continuity, turning the office into his primary operational residence for a continuous 787 days—spanning over two years and two months—before returning to his Mohammadpur residence following a 25-month period of subsequent imprisonment.
