BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has issued a stern warning that strict disciplinary and organizational measures will be enforced against any party member who contests the upcoming local government elections as a rebel or independent candidate in defiance of official party decisions.
The party's position was articulated by BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi during an interaction with journalists on Monday. Emphasizing organizational discipline, Rizvi affirmed that party nominees and endorsements for the forthcoming polls will be finalized strictly in accordance with grassroots recommendations:
"Candidates for the upcoming local government elections will be determined based on the opinions of local leaders and activists, taking grassroots evaluations and individual competence into direct consideration."
To uphold organizational cohesion and prevent internal factionalism, the party leadership resolved to back a single consensus candidate in each respective race. Rizvi warned that any activist breaching party discipline to file independent nominations will face immediate organizational penalties.
Instructing local leaders to unite behind eligible candidates, the acting secretary general noted that union, upazila, and district-level committees must conduct thorough vetting to endorse competent individuals in Union Parishad elections, particularly as the upcoming polls will not be conducted under official party symbols.
Highlighting the importance of transparent governance and public engagement, Rizvi urged party activists to remain closely connected with citizens at the grassroots level and disseminate the government's public-welfare initiatives, asserting that dedicated community engagement serves as the strongest safeguard against unethical practices.
