In an unprecedented retrospective decision taken seven years and five months after the election, the Dhaka University Syndicate has officially declared Md. Rashed Khan as the General Secretary (GS) of the 2019 Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU). The landmark resolution follows the formal cancellation of the university studentship and admission status of the originally declared winner, former Bangladesh Chhatra League central general secretary Golam Rabbani.
The strategic decision was finalized on Monday, August 31, during a meeting of the university's highest decision-making authority, the Syndicate, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam. The formal confirmation of Rashed Khan’s revised electoral status was corroborated by Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Abdus Salam.
The administrative action stems from an institutional inquiry committee investigation that discovered severe irregularities regarding Golam Rabbani’s MPhil admission, determining his student status to be legally void. Consequently, following his failure to provide a satisfactory response to a Syndicate show-cause notice, the Academic Council canceled his enrollment, prompting the Syndicate to revoke his DUCSU post and elevate the second-highest vote recipient to the position.
Rashed Khan initially shared the outcome on his social media page, describing how the invalidation of Rabbani's credentials paved the way for the Syndicate to declare him the legitimate GS. In the historic March 2019 DUCSU polls, Golam Rabbani was originally shown as the winner with 10,484 votes, while Rashed Khan secured the runner-up position with 6,063 votes.
