BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi
Bangladesh will stage a robust turnaround under the capable leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, asserted BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Tuesday evening. He made the remarks while addressing a concise gathering organized in the capital's Uttara area to mark the 48th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Reflecting on the country's turbulent post-independence history, Rizvi recounted the severe poverty, famine, and deprivation witnessed between 1972 and 1975, when destitute citizens were driven to chew leaves from mango trees for sustenance. He argued that late President Ziaur Rahman was assassinated as part of a coordinated domestic and international conspiracy simply because the patriotic leader stood uncompromisingly for national sovereignty and independence rather than bowing to foreign dictates.
Emphasizing the enduring roots of the party, Rizvi stated that a political movement founded by a patriotic freedom fighter and sustained through relentless repression by an iconic leader who stood firmly with the people until her last days can never be obliterated or destroyed. He concluded that despite relentless historic conspiracies against the BNP, the party could not be derailed, maintaining that Bangladesh is set to rebound and attain complete self-reliance across all macroeconomic indicators under Tarique Rahman’s stewardship.
