Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain
Abdul Kader, a key coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement during the July mass uprising, has endorsed speculations that National Citizen's Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain may run for office in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
Kader shared his positive reaction in a social media update on Monday (September 7).
"Heard Asif Bhai might run in Dhaka North. This decision seems suitable. His character and mindset match well with the environment and public vibe of Dhaka North. Hoping for a great combination," Kader wrote in his post.
The statement follows reports confirming that both NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary and Spokesperson Asif Mahmud have formally relocated their voter registration areas. Patwary transferred his registration from Dhaka North to Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), while Asif shifted his voting area from Dhaka South to Aftabnagar under Dhaka North.
The strategic shift has fueled political speculation over whether the NCP plans to nominate Asif Mahmud for DNCC and Nasiruddin Patwary for DSCC in the upcoming city corporation mayoral races.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior NCP leader revealed that the party is aiming for victories across both Dhaka metropolises, adding that Patwary and Mahmud are the likeliest candidates to secure nominations in the two zones.
