State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and Gono Odhikar Parishad President Md Nurul Hoque Nur has expressed strong resentment towards the student advisers of the former interim government, accusing them of corruption.
“It’s not just one adviser. If these so-called student advisers are properly and impartially investigated, evidence of corruption involving at least Tk100 crore against each of them will be found,” he said.
The state minister made the remarks while speaking at an activists’ meeting of the Gono Odhikar Parishad’s Dhaka South unit at the Sagar-Runi Auditorium of the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Friday.
He said that the way the country was supposed to be rebuilt while maintaining national unity after the July uprising could not be achieved.
He attributed this failure to the role of the advisory council and student advisers of the interim government.
Nur said the student advisers, who came to the forefront through the media, abused their power and attempted to use the state machinery to gain political advantages.
He alleged that they were involved in fascist activities under the guise of the revolution and had colluded with various vested interest groups.
The Gono Odhikar Parishad leader said the people’s expectation that a new Bangladesh would be built by young people was hampered by the activities of the student advisers.
As a result, he said, post-uprising politics could not move in the right direction.
