Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman urged Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders and activists on Monday (September 14) to shun personal rivalries and remain united, issuing a stern warning that neither the party nor the government will shoulder responsibility for extortionists or opportunists creating public harassment.
Addressing an exchange-of-views meeting organized by Khulna city and district units of BNP at the Khulna Press Club banquet hall as chief guest, the minister emphasized that while healthy political competition is natural, it must never devolve into factional friction. He warned that internal division only creates opportunities for defeated fascist elements and vested quarters to exploit the political landscape.
Expressing deep frustration over persistent allegations of excessive toll collection and extortion targeting traders and farmers at Rupsha Ghat and local markets, Asaduzzaman made it clear that extortion under the party banner will not be tolerated. He stated that local administrative bodies and law enforcement have been directed to conduct mobile courts and take unyielding punitive action against offenders.
"No one will be spared, even if a senior party leader lobbies on behalf of these perpetrators. Neither the party nor the government will protect extortionists," the minister asserted. Regarding upcoming election nominations, he highlighted that the party leadership will evaluate candidates strictly based on grassroot public acceptance and electoral winnability rather than factional patronage.
Presided over by Khulna City BNP President and KDA Chairman Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona, the meeting featured addresses from Parliamentary Whip Rakibul Islam Bakul MP, Azizul Bari Helal MP, Amir Ejaz Khan MP, Khulna City Corporation Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju, and Khulna WASA Chairman Moniruzzaman Moni. District BNP Acting Member Secretary Monirul Hasan Bappy moderated the event.
